If he were to be traded, what would be the return?

Love to see him come to NJ....

Would Mattias Tedenby and second be enough?

Weiss would look real nice alongside Kovalchuk.

You are aware Versteeg and Fleischman are his wingers and both have them were producing PPG numbers only until recently, correct?

Howden, Huberdeau, Markstrom and Bjugstad are untouchable. For the first time in a decade we have a future.

But if I were Tallon, I would consider getting rid of Bjugstad and/or Brickley in order to get some help now. We need it badly, and I wouldn't mind Roy.

Yeah, but do you think you are legit cup contender? Up with the likes of Boston/NYR/Philly/Pitt and maybe NJ.....Not yet I don't think. Probably better to just wait then.

Well.. I do not think NJ is a cup contender this year in the first place, thought I'm surprised a Pete Deboer team has performed as well as you guys have so, hats off. And we haven't had our opening night roster on the ice since November. Injuries have KILLED us. There's no telling what kind of team we would be if we were healthy all season.. we finally got most of our forwards back.. still missing Sturm and Upshall.. and lost three guys on defense; Garrison, Jovo, and Kulikov... our top 3 guys. It's been hell. Heck, we were even missing Theodore for a long while, and didn't even have Markstrom to call up because HE was hurt as well lol.

I'm not afraid of Boston. With Horton possibly being out the rest of the season plus longer, and their lack of offense.. I don't see them as a threat. The Flyers are meh right now, too. The Rangers scare the hell out of me and so do the Sens. I think they will be the black sheep of the East. If we make it, I'll be happy. God knows it's been too long.

Nice thing about roy is that he has a fine cap hit with another year left....and needs a change of scenery.

Gives you instant depth down the middle...

I agree. I didn't think the same about the Devils, but they are making me change my mind. We are doing very good without Zajac and Tallinder and Larsson, two of our top four defenseman. I don't know, Devils may suprise some teams in the playoffs, in my opinion. The team is almost like a big family at this point, and they are buying in a lot, should be fun to watch.

Im happy the Panthers are competitive again. I hope you guys get in at the 3 seed. You guys should maybe add a little depth and try and win a playoff series this year

A very interesting article Dan. Watching the Cats night in and out, I actually did not realize how poorly Weiss was playing statistically speaking recently. My opinion is that this is really an academic discussion (and a good one) as I do not believe that Weiss will waive his NTC, even to go to a contender. He is very, very committed to this franchise (and it can be debated whether he is right or wrong in that) and loves living in South Florida. He truly wants to be part of what is coming. He would be pretty dynamic as a 2nd line center, not going up against other teams top defensive lines.

The second question raised here on the comment wall is: should the Panthers make a move, and what move should it be. There is nothing out there top 6 wise that is either: not a good fit, too expensive, or overpriced. And any move we make should not give up future pieces, like a Bjugstad, who will be great.

I know they are shopping Garrison. I am comfortable with that. There is a premium on defensemen right now and he will be a pricey UFA who I am not sure- despite my love for him- is worth it. Campbell makes him look awfully good out there, and we are stacked at defense once Kulikov and Jovo are back. Ellerby is very physical and has been solid defensively blocking shots, Strachan has been a nice surprise, we have Yonkman to fall back on and Robak is close, with Petrovic trailing him.

I'd like to see the Cats move Garrison and a forward on the team now- thinking Kopecky or Santorelli for a bona fide 2nd or high 3rd line young power forward at wing, or Mike Ribeiro as a center. That way you get a more long term addition who can help now with more size to play alongside Weiss (yes- maybe break up the first line and plunk some size in with them). At 4 mill a year I do not think Kopecky is worth it and his playoff experience and size may be something we can sell.

He is a lefty (I have picked up a couple of his sticks for sale, big-time heel curve and very long sticks!). Figure return would be high. The going rate on D-men has been at least a 2nd round pick and that is for lesser d-men than the G-52, who is at or near the top of the league in goals by D-men and has a solid +/- to go with it, good size, and is still young. In other words, he ain't no Kubina or Grossman at this point.

That rules him out with the Devils.

We have Foster, but he's a liability defensively.

They traded the first four, and if the were to rid themselves of Weiss, it would be via trade.

It was more because they felt they needed to move on rather than the player leaving. They could've went for the soft commie Kovalchuk in the FA market.

1) The Panthers have not gotten rid of Weiss, nor have they said they were going to, Dan's article was merely an exploration of should they or should they not.

2) Look hard at the numbers, the Booth trade makes a lot of sense for the Panthers, and in 40 games, Booth has 11 goals and 12 assists and is still -3. As this has already been much discussed I will merely point out he makes a lot of money and has a NTC kick in for 3 more years this summer.

3) Horton wanted out. He was not that good for us anyway as he did not want to be here. Bye bye.

4) The others you speak of were traded by the horrific prior management.

To have a clue about the Panthers you MUST differentiate between the Tallon years and those of Martin and Keenan that destroyed this team. Otherwise there is not really much to discuss that will be informative or productive.
